Remembering a Dear Friend

Many years ago in Bishopton. Quebec the Porter girls and Gilbert girls spent many happy hours together.  Norma was a special friend to me because she was living nearby when I was a student teacher at Macdonald College in Ste. Anne de Bellevue, west of Montreal.  We met fairly often and I really liked her encouragement.  I was the youngest student in the class and often felt inadequate.  She always had a way of boosting my morale!

She also took me to specal events from time to time. One outing I still remember took us to the top of Mount Royal to see "A Midsummer Night's Dream" which was being presented in a pastoral setting in the evening.  Suddenly a storm came up and actors and audience crowded together in a big tent to keep from getting wet.  I don't remembe how long the storm lasted, but I do know that was when I found out that I am claustrophobic in dark and crowded surroundings!

A few years later my new husband and I took of on his motorcycle to travel to Niagars Falls on our honeymoon.  I suggested that we stop off in Valois for a few minutes and visit with Norma and Linton.  We were received with open arms and after a few minutes of chattng together Linton said," I have a song to play for you"  So he put on a record and we listened to Jan Pierce singing "Because", which he considered to be a suitable song for newly-weds!

When I saw the obituary notice I was surprised to see that Norma was actually ten years older than I, yet she went out of her way in a busy time of her life to make things easier for a sixteen-year-old!  To her family and friends I send heartfelt condolences.  She lived a long and fruitful life. I realy appreciated the photo, it shows her as she was, a beauttiful classy lady!
