Obituary for James John Woods
WOODS
James Woods of Didsbury, beloved husband to Helga, passed away at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary on December 31, 2017 at the age of 71 years. James was born October 9, 1946 in Montreal, Quebec. He started working at the age of 17 in order to take care of his mother and sister after his father passed away. He started out in drafting as he loved to draw and then went to Northern Telecom where he remained until his retirement at the age of 57 years. James spent his time taking care of his family and doing the things he loved; fishing with his kids/grandchildren, playing horseshoes, darts and most of all playing his guitar. He was an incredible guitar player and had a wonderful voice when he sang. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family and his hard work. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and those who knew him. The family would like to thank the paramedics for their valiant efforts to try and keep dad with us. James memory will be forever cherished by his wife Helga of 47 years; children Cathy (Trevor) Petersen, Bill Woods, Bob Woods; seven grandchildren Chelsea, Alexander, Matthew, Hope, Benjamin, Joshua, Carter; two great-grandchildren Preston and Ashtyn; sister Teresa (Rob) Johnson; nephew Mark; mother-in-law Margarette Dresler; sister-in-law Carol Dresler; as well as numerous extended family and friends. A private family gathering was held. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation.
