Obituary for Robert Edward Vetter

Robert (Bob) Edward Vetter
June 27, 1931 - June 28, 2017
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Edward Vetter shortly after his 86th birthday. Bob was born on his parents' farm west of Three Hills. He attended primary school at Buckeye, attended high school at Salem in Sunnyslope, and in 1957 married Marjorie Doris Mason. A few years later they moved to the farm between Sunnyslope and Allingham on the Kneehill Creek, where they lived until retiring to Olds. Bob was a good neighbour, and a leader and active volunteer for his community associations, local events and sports teams. He was an avid sportsman, hunting and fishing when a young man, and a talented athlete, playing hockey until he was 65, baseball until 75, and golf and horseshoes into his 80s. He lived a full and interesting life, adding to the farm, observing wildlife, nurturing a rock band, panning gold in the Yukon, studying masonry at Olds College, and travelling to California in the winter, among other places. Bob will be deeply missed by his wife Marjorie of 60 years, his daughter Candice (Douglas Azar), sons Stephen and Daniel, his granddaughters Bronwyn, Kirsten, Annika and Stephanie, his sisters Thelma Ohlhausen, Shirley (Charlie) Whatley, and Faith (Mearl) Falk, many nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbours. He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Ada (Johnston) Vetter, his daughter-in-law Catheryne, his brothers-in-law Eddie Ohlhausen and Brian Mason, his sisters-in-law Valerie Loxam, Carol Bach, Sharon Ryall, and Pamela Mason, and five nephews. His memorial service will be held on Monday, July 10 at 1 p.m. at the Olds Legion, 5241 46th St., Olds, Alberta.
Condolences can be sent to www.heartlandfuneralservices.com which has been entrusted with arrangements. Donations in Bob's memory can be made to Jumpstart, a charity that assists youth in financial need to participate in organized sports.
