Obituary for Emil Alfred Nelson

Mr. Emil Alfred Nelson of Innisfail, passed away peacefully at his home at Sunset Manor, Innisfail on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the age of 98 and one half years. Emil was born on January 23, 1921 to Edwin and Mathilda Nelson in Coronation. Alberta. He attended school in Glengile. Emil married Irene Wangsness on December 14, 1944, and had two sons, Larry and Mervin. Emil worked on the family farm until he got his first job in 1944, at the Coronation Creamery making butter, while Irene was grading eggs. Emil and Irene moved the family to Stettler in 1951, when Emil took a job in the Oil Industry. From 1951 to 1963, the family traveled to various locations in Alberta, where Emil would be working. In 1963, the family moved back to Stettler; where Emil went to work for Frank Avery Construction. In 1970, Emil and Irene moved to Innisfail when Emil went to work at the Bowden Institute, as a Steam Engineer, where he worked until his retirement. Emil and Irene purchased a trailer, and then purchased a house in 1987, and then a condo at Snowberry Downs in 1998. Irene passed away in August 2013, and Emil continued to live in the condo, until he moved to Sunset Manor in 2018, where he resided until his passing. Emil always enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling with their motor home. Emil was a very passionate gardener; he had a huge vegetable garden at their house in Innisfail, that never had a weed. Right up until his passing, Emil enjoyed a game of cards with friends or family. Emil will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Larry (Sandy) Nelson of Innisfail and Mervin (Marjorie) Nelson of Calgary, his grandchildren, Kerilee (Jonathan) and Ashley, and his great grandchildren, Eilana and Maggie. He will also be sadly missed by his sister, Ellen Saar, a brother, Albert (Betty), a brother-in-law, Bruce, and numerous nieces and nephews. Emil was predeceased by his wife, Irene in 2013, his parents, Edwin and Matilda, his siblings, Agnes, Melvin, John, Hilda, Arnold, Gordon and Stan, and a grandson, Brett Nelson in 1998. A Funeral Service honoring Emil’s Life will be held at the Coronation Cemetery, Coronation, Alberta.
