Obituary for Helen Sutherland
Helen Roberta Sutherland passed away suddenly at the age of 81 on Sunday, August 25, 2019 in Red Deer, Alberta. Helen was born in Innisfail, Alberta in 1937, the middle daughter of Neva and Robert Neilson. She married her husband Bill in 1956 and they settled in Red Deer. Helen particularly enjoyed the company of family and friends. Her love of music was known to all. She played the piano by ear and enjoyed dancing and singing. The family moved to Olds in 1967 and Helen relocated to Red Deer in 2008 due to failing health.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband in 1999. She will be missed by her three children, Debra (Keath), Kirk (Angela) and Keith; five grandchildren, Jason and Tyson; Sacha and Afton; and Taylor; as well as one great grandchild, James. She is survived by her sisters Myrtle, Vera, Myrna, and brothers Doug and Norman. A funeral service in memory of Helen will be held September 3, 2019 at the Olds Legion at 11:15 am. Interment will precede the service at the Olds Cemetery at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lending Cupboard, #1, 7803 – 50 Avenue, Red Deer, AB T4P 1M8.
