May 19, 1948 – March 25, 2019
Paul was born in The Pas, Manitoba. He lived most of his life “West of the 5th Meridian”, and was a proud Albertan and self-made man. He was educated as a Petroleum Geologist and worked many years in downtown Calgary, fuelling his dual life. While days were in the city, weekends he tended to his country home, first near Priddis and then near Kevisville where he eventually retired. Paul was driven by his deep appreciation for the natural world and his desire to leave things better than he found them. Paul built several log houses, restored antique machinery, built and flew a Biplane, dabbled in watercolor painting, authored 5 books and numerous essays. In retirement, music became his new passion and led to the recording of 2 CDs. A self-taught guitar player, you might have found him honing his skills among friends on the Grandview Stage. His quiet confidence and thoughtful conversation will be missed. Paul achieved much in his 70 years on this big rock. He leaves his two daughters, two grandchildren, his mom, three siblings, and his many friends and neighbours to muse about what else he would have accomplished with another couple of decades to stir the pot. A heartfelt thank you to all his caregivers and neighbours who helped him realize his wish to remain at home. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Innisfail Legion (5108 49th Ave) at 2:00 pm April 5, 2019. In lieu of flowers, please plant some of his favourite red geraniums around your house this spring.
