Obituary for Ruth Ingvarda Currie

RUTH CURRIE
1922 - 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mother and Grandmother Ruth Currie in the early morning hours of February 13, 2019. Due to the decline in her health she was in palliative care since November. Ruth Ingvarda was the youngest child born to Norwegian immigrants Rasmus and Ida Nordal on August 2 1922. Like many children of that time, Ruth was born at home in the family farmhouse near Bulyea, Saskatchewan. She was doted on by her sister and three brothers. During her 96 and a half years she saw many changes in the world. Travelling by horse and buggy to rural, one room, multigrade schools is where Ruth began her lifelong love of learning. In 1951 Ruth married her sweetheart and soulmate Ralph Currie. They had what Ralph called his million dollar family- one girl and one boy. Ruth was a stay at home Mom, a gracious hostess and her door was always open and the coffee always on. Life has in Strasbourg afforded Ruth many opportunities for community involvement, such as Combined Appeal, Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Norrona Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, and The Eastern Star where she held the office of Worthy Matron. Ralph and Ruth lived all their married life in the same home on Main Street until she became a widow in 1983. After that she moved to Alberta to begin her new role as grandma. She had a wide circle of influence with younger generations and played a huge role in her grandchildren’s lives. Ruth was a 3 time breast cancer survivor, and accepted many health challenges with uncomplaining grace. Her blindness didn’t define her and she could see what others miss. She loved to travel, especially to Hawaii with Ralph, and in later years enjoyed many visits to various locations with her family. One very special trip was to Norway, where she visited her parents’ home, explored her roots, and met many relatives. In May 2016 Ruth moved to Sunset Manor in Innisfail where she was cared for until her passing. We are all extremely grateful for the care and support that she received. Thank you to Karen Jegina and Larry Frischke for being with mom to support the family during Ruth’s last hours. Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Ida May Frischke (Tom Williams) son Ross Currie (Loretta Prim), grandchildren, Jennea Frischke (Derek Wilson) Ryan Frischke (Taylor Poitras), Candice Currie and Maggie Currie sisters-in-law Kay Nordal, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many friends including her special CNIB volunteer. Ruth was predeceased by her sweetheart Ralph, her parents, her sister, her brothers, as well as her treasured infant granddaughter Samantha Currie and two year old nephew Iver Mykle.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, Innisfail on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. A second celebration will take place at a later date at Norrona Lutheran Church near Bulyea, Saskatchewan where she will be reunited with her dear husband in the family plot. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation The CNIB or another charity in memory of our dear mom and grandma.
