Obituary

Cunningham, Blanche Mary Celene

Blanche Cunningham, beloved wife of Norrie Cunningham, passed away on January 17, 2019 at the age of 78. Blanche was born in Red Deer on April 21, 1940 to Frank and Edith Dallaire and was raised on a farm in the Burnt Lake District. Blanche was a teacher and started her career in 1959 at Bowden School where she met her husband Norrie. They married and farmed in the Cottonwood District, while Blanche continued to teach at Bowden School until her retirement 34 years later. Blanche had a love of learning and teaching that knew no bounds and enjoyed her career immensely. She was a member of many community organizations; Cottonwood WI, Provincial WI, Federal WI, as well as many positions in the Cottonwood-Gordon Ag Society. She loved making crafts, playing games, singing, music, and visiting with friends and family. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 58 years, Norrie; her son Michael Cunningham; her daughter Anne (Steven) Saliwonchuk; her grandchildren Katelin and Ashley Cunningham and Mary Jane Saliwonchuk, and her great grandson Andrew Cunningham; her brother Frank (Barb) Dallaire and her brother-in-law Roy Schafer as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law Lillie (Roy) Clutton, Marion (Roy) Brown, and Julianna Schafer; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Maggie (Bill) Slocombe, Maysie (Fred) Packer, and Bud (Pauline) Cunningham; nieces Marjorie Simms and Nancy Krebbs; nephew Pat Cunningham; her infant brother Stephen, and her parents. A Celebration of Life for Blanche Cunningham will be held at the Cottonwood Hall on Tuesday April 23, 2019. If friends desire, donations can be made to the Cottonwood-Gordon Ag. Society (Building Fund).

Farewell to a wonderful lady, who I knew all my life...she never was my teacher, but for a time we rode on the same bus! I have many good memories of Blanche at gatherings at the hall (she sang at many of these), lots of W. I. Events, and many times at my Aunty Sue’s (Tingle). She was a hard working community member, putting in many hours volunteering her time. My condolences to the family, you had a fine wife, mother, grandma.
