Obituary for Montgomery "Monty" Wild

1944 - 2018
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Monty Wild. Monty passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 22, 2018 with his best friend and wife Jean at his side along with his son Damien (Amber), his close friends Mark Jejina and Randy McDonald, and his four- legged companion Lester.

Monty was born in Kinistino, Saskatchewan to Reg and Besse Wild. Monty lived for the outdoors and as a child spent hours wandering through the country side exploring as only little boys can do. His Father took him on countless fishing trips to Kingsmere Lake teaching young Monty the intricacies of camping in the wild and also taught him how to hunt. Monty often recalled the wonderful times he had sharing these experiences with his Dad. In 1955 the family moved to Rimbey, Alberta as his mom was having health issues and they lived with Monty’s Uncle Harold until finally settling in Chaplin, Saskatchewan in 1958.

Monty wanted to pursue higher education and graduated from the University of Saskatoon in 1967 with a B.A. and B.Ed. He taught language arts at McCauley School in Edmonton from 1967-1969. Monty returned to University in 1969 at the University of Alberta to pursue a degree in law.

Monty practiced law in Edmonton and decided in 1981 to move his family to Innisfail where he joined the firm of Johnson, Miller and Lehane. Monty eventually became a partner and the firm become Miller, Lehane and Wild.

Monty had a lasting impact on his clients and everyone he met. He was an avid volunteer in the community and felt it was important to give back. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Innisfail since 1981 and spearheaded the Rotary Napolean Trail project in recent years.

Monty enjoyed many hobbies that included growing a variety of orchids, photography, bird watching, gardening, golf, skiing, cycling, motorcycling and taking his pal Lester to the dog park. Whatever Monty did he did with all his heart. There was never an option to do anything half- heartedly.

Monty will be sadly missed by his wife Jean, his sons Damien (Amber) and Daniel, brother Jack, niece and nephews and many friends.

A celebration of Monty’s life will be held Friday, November 30 at 1:00 p.m. at the United Church. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to ‘Rotary Club of Innisfail’ Napolean Lake Trail Project so Monty’s passion and vision can be carried on for everyone in the community to enjoy.
