GLENNIS ROY CHRISTIAN
1943 - 2018
Glennis Roy Christian peacefully left this world at his home on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at the age of 75 years. Glenn is survived by his beloved wife and partner Dale. Glenn’s memory and legacy of love will be cherished by his children; daughter, Candace and sons, Joel, Trevor, Mark (Janna) his son-in-law, Dwayne Abraham, daughter-in-laws, Ginger and Tanya and his 13 much-loved grandchildren; Eric, Shawn, Ben, Evan, Ethan, Liam, Wil, Max, Aaron, Rowan, Danika, Sam and Aurora. Glenn will be dearly missed by his sister Gay (husband Carl) Holm, brothers-in-law Brian Becker and Rod Strong, sister-in-law, Charlene (husband Alan) Gallant and 7 nieces and nephews, Monte, Jaime, Kelly, Robyn, Jennifer, Zachary and Tim. He was predeceased by his sister, Sharon, their parents Roy & Mary Christian, and his parents by marriage, Jim and Dorothy Strong.
Glenn was born in his parents log home near the Saskatchewan/Manitoba border town of Benito. His family moved several times to locations in Saskatchewan, BC, and Alberta until they finally settled in the Medicine River Flats where he has farmed for the past 60 years. Glenn attended Olds College and earned his Agricultural Diploma before he met and married Dale Maureen Strong. A true partnership, Glenn and Dale worked hard together looking after the land and building their farm legacy, Christabel Ranch. Glenn was an innovator and inventor who loved his life farming and raising livestock. The focus and joy of his life was always his family. His greatest delight was teaching, watching and supporting first his children and later his grandchildren in their many pursuits. A fixture at every game or performance he could fit into his day, he was their greatest champion.
Glenn was a passionate steward of the land, protecting the watershed and environmental health of the river valley until the day he succumbed to heart failure. He was a loyal friend to many and optimistically found merit in every soul with whom he struck up a conversation. A man of his word who placed supreme value on a bargain secured with a handshake, he will be sadly missed by all those that had the honor of his acquaintance.
Those wishing to pay their respects to Glenn Christian are welcome to attend a time of visitation at the Heartland Funeral Chapel in Innisfail on Wednesday, November 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held the following afternoon at the Innisfail United Church, Innisfail, AB at 1:00 p.m. A private internment will precede the service at the Tindastoll Cemetery. Condolences can be forwarded to the family at Heartland Funeral Chapel. If friends so desire, memorial donations in Glenn’s name may be directed to the Mustard Seed or Friends of Grandview (Breakfast program).
