Ernest Carl Walz
1937 – 2018
Ernie Walz passed away peacefully at the Villa Marie Long Term Care Centre in Red Deer,
Alberta at 7:00 pm on October 25th. He passed just as his eldest son Calvin combined the last
swath for the 2018 harvest. He was 81 years old.
Ernie loved the land. He was a farmer through and through. He will be deeply missed but we
find great comfort knowing he took his departure just in time to make the final round with
Calvin.
He was born on October 8, 1937 in Olds, Alberta. He grew up on the family farm in Calder
community east of Innisfail. On October 17, 1959, Ernie married Wilma Kinsella of Innisfail. In
1963, Ernie and Wilma bought their farm just south of the Calder school where they farmed
with their children and then Calvin and Pam’s family until Ernie’s passing.
Ernie will be lovingly remembered and is survived by his wife, Wilma, sons Calvin (Pam) of
Innisfail, Denis of Vancouver, daughter Loretta (Andrea) of Montreal, and his four
grandchildren. Ernie was so proud of his grandkids – Derek, Sarah, Alex and Augie.
Also left to mourn are his sister Ruth (Floyd) of Innisfail, brother Kurt (Frances) of
Saskatchewan, aunts, Anne and Helen (Vern), brother-in-law Earl (Daryl) Kinsella, sister-in-law
Phyllis Kinsella, his cousins in Germany and Switzerland, as well as numerous cousins, nieces
and nephews in the Walz, Beer, and Kinsella families.
He was pre-deceased by his Mother and Father, Bertha [Beer] and Herbert Walz and his sister
Alice (Ted).
Last but not least, Ernie is deeply missed by his loyal dog, Alice.
A Celebration of Ernie's life will be held at the Innisfail Library on Friday, November 2, 2018 at
2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to STARS Air Ambulance.
May he rest in peace.
