Obituary for Lee Rodney Long

Lee Rodney Long
1956 - 2018
It is with the greatest sadness that I announce the untimely passing of my husband, Lee Rodney Long, of Waiparous, AB on May 5, 2018 at the age of 61 years.
Lee was born on October 9, 1956 in Lacombe to Percy and Lorena Long. He was the youngest of three sons. The family homesteaded just west of Blackfalds. Lee later resided in Central Alberta, Prince Albert, Swan Hills and finally settling in the Village of Waiparous.
Lee was a consultant for new oilfield and environment technologies working alongside his closest friends. He worked from home and consulted in Texas which he enjoyed tremendously.
Lee was known for his great love of the outdoors; motorcycle riding, prospecting, fishing, and various nature activities. Among his greatest accomplishments was firefighting as a volunteer for 15 years in Swan Hills rising to the rank of Deputy Fire Chief and accumulating many awards and citations. He felt the greatest satisfaction in giving back to his community. Lee’s love of animals knew no bounds and throughout his life he raised and rescued many cats and dogs; 5 of which are left to mourn him.
He is survived by his soul mate/wife of 34 years Melody Long, his children: Rachelle (Ryan), Matthew, grandson: Asher, brothers: James, Ronald (Anne), Uncle Glen and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Percy and Lorena (Gant) Long, his grandparents Arthur and Martha Long, Marley and Suzanna Gant.
To say he was a great man is an understatement, he was the best. He loved greatly, and he was loved greatly. He touched the lives of so many people and will be sorely missed by his many friends and colleagues.
You are welcome to attend his Celebration of Life at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #104 (5108 – 49 Ave.) Innisfail, Alberta on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. A Scattering Ash Ceremony will be held in Swan Hills. Date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Swan Hills Fire Department.. Contact Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Innisfail entrusted for more information at 403-227-0006. www.heartlandfuneralservices.com or www.choicememorials.com
