Obituary for Kenneth Rudolf Lundgren

Kenneth Rudolf Lundgren
KENNETH LUNDGREN
1932 - 2018
Mr. Kenneth Rudolf Lundgren, originally of Kevisville, Alberta, passed away at the Innisfail Health Care Centre with his family at his side on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the age of 85 years.
Ken was born in Innisfail, Alberta on June 11, 1932, to Rudolf and Mariam Lundgren. He was raised on the family farm at Kevisville along with his sister Darlene with whom he always shared a close bond. He attended Red Raven School from Grades 1 - 9 and then went to Dickson School for Grade 10 and 11. Due to his father’s illness he left school to go back home and help on the farm during his Grade 11 year.
Ken married Myrna Matthews in 1962 in Dickson and they went on to have four children; Roger, Norman, Darcy and Karen. They continued building the family farm together with many cattle, horses and other animals including birds and sheep. Ken was a farmer through and through. He loved the land and the animals that shared it as did the two generations before him. Spring, with the young calves and foals was his favorite time of year. Harvest was always a busy, but happy time for Ken as he loved to spend time working the land. Ken was the most amazing husband, father and neighbor. He was always there to help his wife, his kids or anyone that needed a hand. He never stopped working, and always loved to be busy, there was always something to do. His generosity and kindness, his love for animals, his passion for the farm all contributed to the amazing human being that we all knew him to be.
His love of sports, especially hockey and baseball which he also played himself, made him a steadfast fan of the Calgary Flames, Toronto Blue Jays and the Red Deer Rebels. Coaching when his kids were young and watching his grandchildren grow and develop as they played was always a special joy. After moving to Bowden, Ken and Myrna were such avid fans of their grandchildren’s hockey, they were awarded the Charlie Hubschmid Memorial Award with the Bowden Minor Hockey Association in 2012.
Kenneth loved meeting new people and was active in many associations within the district. He was a Charter Member of the Gwendale Elks, the caretaker of the Kevisville Cemetery, a member on the Spruce View Co-op board, as well as a board member on the Red Raven Surface Rights Protective Association for the 20 years of its existence.
As his life slowed, his days with his family and friends became even more important. Music was another one of Ken's loves, be it listening to country music on the the radio or going to the Daines Country Music Picnic. He loved having family gatherings with great food and stories and having coffee with friends.
Ken is lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Myrna; his children Roger (Kim), Norman (Donna), Darcy (Greg) and Karen (Mike); 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sister, Darlene Bryan, and nephew Dallas Bryan of Abbotsford, B.C.; as well as his sister-in-law Elaine Thompson and her family, and brother-in-law Gary Matthews and his family.
Ken was pre-deceased by his parents Rudolf and Mariam Lundgren.
A Memorial service in honor of Kenneth will be held at the King of Kings Lutheran Church in Dickson, AB. On Monday, May 7 at 2:00 p.m. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Innisfail entrusted with arrangements. 403-227-0006. www.heartlandfuneralservices.com
