Obituary for George Carlton Sisson

SISSON

George Carlton Sisson passed away April 20, 2018 at the Olds Hospital at the age of 89 after a rich and rewarding life. George was born July 23, 1928 in Duchess, Alberta, one of seven children to Carl and Lydia Sisson. His father was a drayman for the town. At the age of five, George moved with the family to a farm east of Innisfail and later they bought land in the Cottonwood district west of Innisfail. There he met Margaret Fordyce and later married in 1948. They worked and lived in several places; Arrowwood, Duchess and as a mill worker in Winfield. In 1954, they worked for Bill and Harold Hammer, east of Olds. Then when the farm was sold to Bill Irwin(an oil man from Calgary), George and Bill became partners until 1977. They then moved to Olds and George was hired on by the County of Mountain View. He worked as a grader operator under Earl Dodd and then by Mel Richards. He retired at 65 in 1993. George liked to keep busy and began to paint houses along with one restaurant. He loved the outdoors, gardening, horses, horseshoes, bowling, cards, shuffleboard and camping. George and Margaret loved to dance and spent many years going to the jam sessions on Thursday night at the Olds Legion where they also volunteered serving many banquets. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret of 69 years; daughters Lorraine(Doug) Hanson, Verna(Brien) McDonald, Penny(Jim) Ross, Kathy(Gary) Richards; son Richard(Tami) Sisson; son- in- law Ed Wenger; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; sisters Eula Brown and Margaret (Arvin) Bull; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. George was predeceased by a loving daughter, Carol Wenger in 2016; a granddaughter Tanya Wenger in 1995; two sisters Hazel Reid and Alma Rosenbargo and one brother Chester Sisson. George is now at peace and will always be loved and forever missed. A Celebration of George’s Life was held on April 27th, 2018 at the Olds United Church. Interment followed in the Hainstock Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to S.T.A.R.S Air Ambulance.
