In Memory of Ian Kennedy

Ian Hector Kennedy - April 2nd, 1948 Calgary, Alberta - April 10th, 2018 Didsbury, Alberta It is with very heavy and broken hearts that the family of Ian Kennedy announce his sudden passing on Tuesday April 10th, 2018. Ian was a husband, father, granddad and a friend to many. Ian is survived by his wife Jennifer of 49 years, their two children; Stephen, his wife Melisa (Airdrie, AB) and Kim, her husband John (Yarmouth, NS) and three amazing grandsons, Cameron, Braydon and Cole. Ian also leaves behind his fur baby, Winston as well as his two grand-puppies Huckleberry & Hank. Ian had a big heart that welcomed many others who he treated as family and opened up his home and table to on many occasions. Ian was a big part of the community he and Jenny retired to and he was proud to call Didsbury, Alberta home for the last 12 years. Ian will also be missed as he sat in the bleachers or by the dugouts of his Grandsons baseball games cheering them on, he was their biggest fan. He was involved with many organizations in the town and surrounding areas including the Didsbury Chamber of Commerce, the local RCMP detachment as well as Rural Crime Watch, Citizens on Patrol and the Olds Golf Club, to name a few. Prior to his retirement, Ian worked for Canada Post for 37 years in various roles, so his children can proudly say they were the postmans children. Ian was predeceased by his Dad Hector and his Mom Hilda as well as his sisters Maxine & Gerry. The family would like to thank the first responders from Alberta Health Services who worked tirelessly on Ian, as well as the Didsbury RCMP and the Didsbury Fire Department for their compassion and the many friends and neighbours who have stopped by with food and love, which is appreciated more than words can describe. In keeping with Ians wishes there will not be a service. We would ask that you remember him by getting out into your community and volunteering your time to make where you live an even better place. In lieu of flowers, our family requests that donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place with final arrangements entrusted to Heartland Funeral Services.
