Obituary for Ian Hector Kennedy

It is with very heavy and broken hearts that the family of Ian Kennedy announces his sudden passing on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Ian was a husband, father, granddad and a friend to many. He is survived by his wife Jennifer of 49 years; their two children Stephen (Melisa) of Airdrie, AB; Kim (John) of Yarmouth, NS; three amazing grandsons, Cameron, Braydon and Cole. Ian also leaves behind his fur baby, Winston as well as his two grand-puppies Huckleberry & Hank. Ian had a big heart that welcomed many people who he treated as family and he opened up his home and table on many occasions. Ian and Jenny retired to Didsbury where he was a big part of the community for the last 12 years. He will also be missed as he sat in the bleachers or by the dugouts of his grandsons baseball games cheering them on as he was their biggest fan. Ian was involved with many organizations in the town and surrounding areas including: Didsbury Chamber of Commerce, Didsbury RCMP detachment, Rural Crime Watch, Citizens on Patrol and the Olds Golf Club, to name a few. Prior to his retirement, Ian worked for Canada post for 37 years in various roles and his children could proudly say they were the postman's children. Ian was predeceased by his dad Hector and his mom Hilda as well as his sisters Maxine & Gerry. The family would like to thank the first responders from Alberta Health Services who worked tirelessly on Ian, Didsbury RCMP, Didsbury Fire Department for their compassion and the many friends and neighbours who have stopped by with food and love. We appreciate it more than words can describe. In keeping with Ian's wishes, no service will be held. We would ask that you remember him by getting out into the community and volunteering your time to make where you live an even better place. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to a charity of choice.Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Didsbury entrusted with arrangements. 403-335-4773 www.heartlandfuneralservices.com
