Wayne Emerson Roberts of Elnora, Alberta passed away on 4 March 2018 at the age of 71 years after a year long battle with cancer.
Wayne was born in Birmingham, England 24 April 1946 to Isabelle Mary Roberts of Medicine Hat, and Donald Edwin Johnson Roberts LAC RAF of Birmingham, England.
Wayne is survived by his mother Isabelle Roberts of Innisfail, sister Mary Mountain (Paul) who resides in Dickson, Alberta, brother James (Jim) Roberts, of London, England; his three children, Jacqueline Northey and Jolene McKendrick, both of Calgary, Alberta, and Aaron Roberts (Kathryn) of Victoria, BC, his three grandchildren, Lucas, Rachel Northey and James Mackenzie Roberts. Wayne's youngest brother Marty Thompson sadly deceased before his time. Wayne came to Canada with his mother and older brother Jim in 1952, celebrating his 6th birthday on the ship on the way over. Wayne's childhood was spent in several communities including Bow Island, AB, Victoria and Parksville, British Columbia, however the majority of his life was spent in Innisfail. He attended the U of A, achieving his Masters of Science in Zoology. He was a lifelong learner, forever seeking to understand the world around him and as a result he remained at the University as the Curator of the Museum of Zoology where he was able to develop and share his expertise until his retirement at 65 years of age. His final years were spent fly fishing and enjoying his nature sanctuary, Ghostpine Springs, south east of Pine Lake, AB.
A service to celebrate Wayne's life was held at St. Marks Anglican Church Friday the 9th of March, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation at http://albertacancer.ca Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Innisfail entrusted with arrangements.
