Obituary for George Reimer
REIMER
George Reimer passed away on November 20, 2017 in the Olds Hospital LTC at the age of 90. George was born in Lethbridge in 1927, the first Canadian-born child of John and Sarah, German Mennonite immigrants from Russia. The family settled near Hussar, AB establishing a farm that George continued to work until it was sold in 1989 when he retired.
George’s first marriage to Helen Stewart saw the arrival of a daughter, Dianne. Sadly, Helen passed after illness a few years later. George married Ruth Christiansen in 1964 and also welcomed son Gary into the family. A daughter, Susan, was born, followed by a son, Craig.
George enjoyed his retirement in his new hometown of Olds, first on an acreage east of town, and then in town since the late 90’s. George and Ruth had many wonderful friends over the years, including those from the Betchen-Bowden United Church, the Evergreen Club, and bowling league. George is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ruth; children Dianne (Jim) Mittelstadt; Gary Reimer; Craig Reimer; four grandchildren: Riley, Glendle (Sunni) and Brett (Samantha); Tara; two great grandchildren, Nichole and Ronin; two sisters Mary and Helen as well as alarge extended family of nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by daughter Susan and siblings Sarah, John, Anna, Jake, and Abe.
Funeral services were held on Friday November 24, 2017 at St. Andrew’s United Church, Bowden with Reverend Blair Whyte officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Olds Hospital Long Term Care.
