SPOONER
Audrey Fay Porter was born in Medicine Hat on September 26, 1940 to parents Ernest Leslie Porter and Myrtle Alida Molden. The oldest of four children (Donna Mae, LuWayne and Gerald) Audrey grew up in Duchess and then attended high school in Brooks. She later entered the Calgbary General School of Nursing in Calgary and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1961. She met Richard Anthony Spooner and they were married September 8, 1962. They moved to Harmattan/Olds where they had two children David and Wanda. Audrey was employed as a registered nurse at the Olds Hospital where she worked for more than 30 years. Her caring nature and respectful approach was appreciated by many and she became an outspoken advocate for patient rights and engagement. Audrey and Richard built their home on Imperial Drive where she spent many hours tending her garden, riding her bike, walking with friends and cross country skiing. She was an excellent cook and avid reader and loved spending time with friends and family, including four grandchildren. Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Audrey struggled with the challenges of dementia for over 15 years. Residing in long-term care since 2013, she passed peacefully on June 21, 2018 just 8 months after Richard.. She will be missed. Thank you to the caring people at Olds Hospital Long Term Care. A service will be held on Saturday, June 30th at 11:00 at the Lutheran Church in Olds. Memorial donations can be made to Olds Hospital and Care Centre, The Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta, or a charity of choice.
