Obituary for Melvin Vernon Olsen

Melvin Vernon Olsen
OLSEN
It is with heavy, love-filled hearts we announce the passing of Melvin Vernon Olsen on May 21, 2018. He was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on April 19, 1942 to Leah (Goetz) and Steve Olsen. Many happy years were spent in Redcliff before the family moved to Medicine Hat.
After graduation from high school, Mel worked for Safeway Canada. Several years later he changed his career path and graduated from NAIT with a certificate in drafting. A conscientious draftsman, he worked in Edmonton for the provincial government and then for the City of Calgary. In 1997, Mel married Barbara (Berild) and they have lived in Olds ever since. He was a man of many interests and talents. Mel loved travelling to the Yukon, camping, fishing, golfing, biking, curling, and playing and coaching baseball. He especially loved children and animals. If you knew Mel, you have heard several of his stories and of course, his jokes. He is survived by his loving wife, Barb; sister, Myrna Rudolph; nephew Kyle Rudolph (Janine), their daughters, Emma and Annabelle; brother-in-law, Cliff Berild (Pauline), their daughters, Jacqueline and Jenna as well as several dear cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law and his “fur baby”, Betty.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made direclty to the Children’s Wish Foundation, SPCA or the charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life was held on Monday May 28, 2018 at the Olds United Church with Reverend Tammy Allan officiating.
