The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Wayne Roberts can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Condolences

Condolence From: Clive & Beryl Bagley UK
Condolence: We were so sorry to hear the sad news from our good friend Isabelle regarding your loss of Wayne.
We have been kept up to date via the phone as to Wayne's health, also in the many letters that have passed between us over the years since Isabelle left Spetchley. We feel that we knew him having heard about his and Isabelle's canoe trips and taking his cat with him.

Condolence: So sorry to hear of Wayne’s passing. My condolences for the loss of a superb fly fisherman, naturalist and keeper of wisdom. I met Wayne as a teenager in 1980 - my father recognizing my keen interest in fishing, suggested I see his colleague Wayne and ask him about flies that wouldn’t sink so fast on the surface film of the North Saskatchewan River. Wayne took me on a true Medicine River adventure and we pursued many mooneye. Wayne was key in influencing my love of rivers and fishes as I pursued both in my career from Calgary. Great memories, Wayne!

Condolence From: Jim Stelfox
Condolence: Wayne was the most dedicated and skilled angler I ever knew. His enthusiasm was infectious and he was always willing to help me with fisheries-related questions/issues. I will miss not being able to have more conversations with him. Alberta's fish and fisheries managers have lost a true friend.

Condolence From: Bruce Aunger
Condolence: Wayne and I grew up together, going to school, Sunday school, Cubs, cadets etc. Wayne was good with a guitar, and enjoyed playing.
I even fished with him, but without his diligence. I left him once as evening came in late March, to hitchhike home with frozen toes. He stayed until it was night.
He was a god man, and although we went our different ways, we did keep in touch.
I am sorry that the last years were not good to him.

To his family, the grief will wane, and each of you will have your separate memories.

Meanwhile Wayne will be enjoying taut lines by the Big River in the sky.

Bye Bud

Bruce

Condolence From: Al Scott
Condolence: Just learned of Wayne's passing today. I was a good friend of Wayne growing up in Innisfail....class of 1964. Wayne was a top student with a particular interest in Biology. We lost contact after high school days, but know that he continued his passion through his work at University of Alberta through various positions including curator at the Museum of Zoology. He also wrote many scientific articles on conservation. Like many classmates, we were looking forward to reuniting last July at a big class reunion in Innisfail but late learned that he became sick and was unable to attend. Condolences to the Roberts family.

Condolence: I am very sorry to hear about Wayne's passing. I fondly remember his friendship and support during my time as a graduate student in the Department of Zoology at the University of Alberta. He had tremendous knowledge about the natural history of Alberta and his love for nature and its surroundings was infectious.

Condolence: Very saddened to hear this. Wayne was one of the best naturalists I ever knew. He was always excited to talk about some of his latest observations. And always willing to help out when asked.
