Obituary for Ronald Cleveland "Ron" Smith

SMITH
Ronald Cleveland Smith, beloved husband of Ruth Smith, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 2, 2018 at the age of 81 years. He was born on April 3, 1936 in Innisfail. Ron married Ruth Lauritzen of Dickson on April 15, 1961 and they were happily married for almost 57 years. Ron’s life work as a farmer began early. At the age of 12, he farmed with his father and two brothers north of Wimborne on Poplar Haven Farms. In 2000, Ron and Ruthie, Garnet, Myrna(and their boys), Pokey and Cara began farming together. Ron had a deep love of the land, knew it well and nurtured it to make it produce at its best. He was a kind, patient man and will be remembered for his deep love for family, friends and community. Ron will be forever remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Ruth; son Garnet (Myrna) and their boys Blair, Shane and Jason; daughter Cara (Pokey) Frere; 2 sisters Cleo Ross of Red Deer and Donna Bennett of Innisfail; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was predeceased by his parents, J.O. and Becky Smith; brothers Gary and Robert; brothers-in-law Walter Lee, Jimmy Ross, Bill Bennett and nephew Larry Lee. Funeral services will be held on Thursday February 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trochu Community Centre, Trochu with Reverend Margaret Lange officiating. Private family interment will be held at the Wimborne Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart Function Clinic c/o Red Deer Hospital.
