Obituary for Willard Leonard Wettlaufer

Willard Leonard Wettlaufer
WETTLAUFER
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Willard Wettlaufer on January 18, 2018. We are comforted knowing he is welcomed into the caring arms of our loving Lord. Willard was born March 6, 1932 on the family farm in Normanby Township, Ontario. Many of his childhood memories are of fishing and swimming in the creek that ran through the farm. He eventually left the farm and headed west stopping in Saskatchewan for a short time before making his way to Alberta. He worked around the Wetaskiwin area for a few years and this is where he met his lovely wife Erna. They were married on June 21, 1958 until her passing on January 3, 2017. They eventually moved to Didsbury where they lived for many years and raised their family. Shortly after moving to Didsbury, Willard went into partnership at Mackay's Processing Plant. After many years in the meat cutting business, he decided on a change of pace and ventured into the grocery business. Starting in Didsbury, then Calgary, Drumheller and finally Innisfail where he would retire. Growing up with 13 brothers and sisters, family meant everything to him. We were always treated to fun summer vacations in BC, the States, and back to Ontario to see relatives. He always made time for us kids, playing/coaching sports, playing games, cards, sharing jokes and keeping us smiling. He was a proud and loving Grandfather, cheering on and encouraging anything his granddaughters did. Willard cherished spending time with his good friends and relatives, visiting and playing cards. As a youngster he enjoyed playing baseball and later became an avid golfer, curler and bowler even representing Alberta, bowling in the senior games. Willard is predeceased by his wife Erna. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Neil (Tonya); Shelly; Mark; grandchildren Meaghan, Josephine, Kaitlynn and numerous relatives and good friends. Funeral services were held on Wednesday January 24, 2018 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Olds with Pastor John Lentz officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Children's Make a Wish Foundation or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Olds. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Olds entrusted with arrangements. 403-507-8610 www.heartlandfuneralservices.com
