Obituary for Dennis Leo Reilander

Dennis Leo Reilander
Dennis Leo Reilander
1950-2017
Dennis passed away peacefully at home after a short 9 ½ week battle with Mantle Cell Lymphoma on November 27, 2017.
Dennis was born April 20, 1950 in Regina to George and Florence Reilander. Dennis grew up in Taber and Calgary. He met his wife and love of his life, Nora while residing in Olds, Alberta. Nora and Dennis were married for 31 years.
Dennis loved working on vehicles and motors of all types and sizes. He was an automotive, diesel, and heavy-duty mechanic.
Dennis’ second love was to Drag Race his 1978 GMC ½ ton Pickup Truck, with a topper, affectionately known as ‘Blackie’. Nora had a decal placed on the tailgate of the truck saying “Stop laughing. She does the ¼ mile in 10 seconds.” Every weekend during race season, one could find Dennis, Nora and their dogs at the drag strip race track racing and having fun, laughs, and giggles with friends and fellow racers. Dennis loved racing so much that he was always the first vehicle to run down the drag strip whether it be just a Time Trial Qualifying pass or the Rocky Mountain Nationals event at Castrol Raceway.
Dennis also loved the competitiveness of playing cards with close friends. He will be sorely missed.
Dennis’ wish is for everyone to remember that the past is gone, so enjoy the present and live life to the fullest. Smile at everyone to brighten their day and just maybe they will smile back or maybe they could be just wondering what you have been doing in order for you to have a grin on your face. Smile – life is too short to be a grump!
Dennis asked to be cremated, and that a small private celebration of life to be held at his favorite race track in the Spring (the start of race season).
If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made in Dennis's name to the Central Alberta Humane Society, Red Deer, Alberta or S.P.C.A.
