Obituary for Berthold "Bert" Egon Mueller

BERTHOLD EGON MUELLER
Bert was born on June 6, 1938 to Artur and Käthe Műller in Buchwitz, Germany.
After the war the family settled in Koln, Germany where he attended school and took his plumbing trade. He immigrated to Canada in July 1959 to join his brother who had immigrated the previous year. They settled in Regina. Bert embraced his new Canadian home and worked hard to learn English in night class. Bert’s roommate felt he required more help with his English so fixed him up on a blind date with a Canadian girl. This young woman not only helped Bert’s English but became the love of his life. He married Donna-Marie on May 12, 1962 and they were blessed with 3 children. Bert was a wonderful care giver for his family. As a tradesman, it was often necessary for him to follow the work. This took him throughout western Canada from Thompson, MB to Victoria, BC. Often traveling ahead of the family to secure work, accommodations and his first paycheck before they would join him. In 1976, after years of chasing work he challenged himself once again and took over the family farm when Donna’s father decided to retire. In 1985 he left the farm and returned to plumbing where he continued to follow work until “retirement” - he never really retired as he was always the first person to help somebody out with their plumbing and carpentry needs. His best times were spent with his family - his children will always remember the laughter while playing games like Fox & Goose, 500 (even though he had never played baseball before) and card games. Bert loved to travel. He has been coast to coast in Canada, to several States and has returned many times to Europe to visit family. He also went to Los Cabos with his daughter at age 76 and went on one more adventure - para-sailing. He was predeceased by his father in February 1945 and his mother in March 1983.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 55 years, Donna-Marie; his children, Kim (Brian) Wittal of Didsbury, Lance (Dawn) Mueller of Saskatoon, Lesley (Joseph) Cardiff of Regina; 9 grandchildren Deanna (Jeff) Smith, Jennifer (Ben) Fleckenstein, Michelle (Brett) Earley, Kyle (Amy) Wittal, Eric (Jamie) Mueller, Nicole Mueller, Ryan Mueller, Zachary Cardiff and Jacob Cardiff; 11 great grandchildren; brother Winfried & Donna Mueller of Fort Qu’Appelle; sisters Ingeborg and Dieter Böhlert, and Ursula and Pejo Gilles and their families in Germany; sisters-in-law Bev Decker, Janie Dickinson and Connie Antoniuk and their families, along with many relatives in Germany. Funeral services were held on Tuesday November 28, 2017 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Didsbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society or Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation.
