Michael George Prew (Mike), 80, peacefully passed away on September 25, 2017, at his ranch in Olds, Alberta. He is survived by his loving wife Patti; his stepson Clayton and daughter-in-law Carla; and his two sisters, Linda and Diana. Michael was predeceased by his parents George James Prew III, his mother Diana, and brother Brian. Mike was born in Toronto, Ontario on May 31, 1937. He completed his education at McGill University and obtained his Canadian Securities License in 1969. Mike was cofounder and President of Westfield Securities which was formed in 1977 and then taken over by Walwyn Stodgell in 1982. In May 1984, Mike and his partners established the Alberta Branch of Yorkton Securities where Mike spent most of his brokerage career. Several corporate takeovers later, Mike was working at Haywood Securities at the time of his death. In 1995, Mike also served as Chairman of the Alberta Stock Exchange. Apart from his business achievements, Mike was passionate about the equestrian sport of cutting. He built his ranch “Stormway Farms”, as a retirement haven for his three champion stallions. Mike was also a benefactor of the Western Art community in Alberta and a supporter of humanitarian causes in Africa. He had a special affinity for his beloved rottweilers; Tar and Boss.
