Obituary for Gayle Edith Yoos

GAYLE EDITH (STURGEON) YOOS
Gayle was born March 13, 1940 in Edmonton and arrived in Olds at the age of 3 weeks as the chosen daughter of Cliff and Grace Sturgeon. Gayle took all her schooling in Olds and graduated from the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing in 1960 as an R.N. Gayle worked at the Red Deer Hospital and Olds Hospital after graduation. She married Rodney Yoos in 1961 and moved to the farm North West of Olds. Gayle continued to work part time and along with colleagues taught prenatal classes at the Olds Hospital. She was active with the Olds & District Light Horse, Sundre Light Horse, leader at the Olds 4H Horse Club, very active with the Olds Agricultural Society and volunteered with the Olds Hospital Auxiliary. Her favourite outings were, to quote her late husband, “to go check if town was still there”, as she enjoyed maintaining her social life. After her move to town (2007) she spent many years building jigsaw puzzles and playing bingo at Sunrise Village. Winters were spent as a snowbird in the Palm Springs area, as well as vacations on cruises and traveling with friends. Each of us will cherish a special memory we have of Gayle and her unique, quirky, mannerisms. Gayle was predeceased by her mother Grace Sturgeon in 1979, her father Cliff Sturgeon in 1982 and her husband Rodney Yoos in 2007. Gayle is survived by her son Bryan (Lois)Yoos; daughter Pat (Don) Braun; grandchildren Kati-Marie (Mansil)Cavan, Colin (Jacqueline Wigg) Jorsvick, Darcy (Katelyn) Jorsvick; step-grandchildren Rick (Donna) Prychun and Ronda Prychun; great-grandchildren Connor and Emmett. A Come & Go Tea will be held on Wednesday October 11, 2017 from 1-3pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #105, Olds. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Olds & District Hospice Society.
