Obituary for Elfriede Meta Luellau

Elfriede Meta Luellau
LUELLAU
Elfriede Luellau passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, on Friday September 8, 2017. Elfriede was born on July 17, 1920 in Germany to Albert and Meta Geis. In 1938, she was married to Ludwig and they shared the joy of a christian marriage until 2004, when Ludwig predeceased her. Their almost 66 years of marriage included World War II, when Elfriede looked after her family of two children while Ludwig served in the German Army. For over six years she nurtured and cared for her family and prayed for her mostly absent husband. In December 1945, Ludwig, who had been listed as missing in action for about two years, came home from a Russian prisoner of war camp. His return contributed significantly to a quick recovery for Elfriede, who at the time was in a hospital with typhoid fever and very near death. In 1951, the family, which had now grown to four children, immigrated to Canada. The family first resided in Manitoba. In 1954, they moved to Kelowna, British Columbia. Ludwig and Elfriede had two more children in Canada. In 1975, the family put down permanent roots on a farm east of Olds. Elfriede leaves a legacy of love and gratitude: first for her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in whom she placed her trust in her youth and followed for her whole life and secondly for her family. Even in her last days, as she was cared for by her children and many of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren that came to visit, her love for her family was evident in her smiles and in her kind words. In her younger years, Elfriede loved to exercise her gift of hospitality by hosting bible studies, billeting, visiting missionaries, preachers and preparing and serving meals for her family and friends. Another special gift was her unique ability to recall scripture passages a well as other sage words of wisdom that she had learned in her youth. Elfriede had a word for seemingly every occasion. She will be forever remembered by all her family and friends. Elfriede is survived by her children Frank (Esther) Luellau, Rose (Erwin) Giebler, Frieda (Les) Engel, Meta Klimek, Esther (Gordon) Andres and Benjamin (Donna) Luellau; 24 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. With spouses included, Elfriede’s still growing family totals over 150 souls! A Celebration of Life was held on Friday September 15, 2017 at the East Olds Baptist church with Pastor James Rosenberger officiating. Interment followed in the East Olds Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in honour of Elfriede’s memory may be made to East Olds Baptist Church Elevator Fund or the Gideons.
