Obituary for Kenneth Harold Thurston

Kenneth Harold Thurston
Kenneth “Ken” Thurston
June 13, 1931 – August 19, 2017

Kenneth Thurston passed away peacefully at the Innisfail Care Center on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the age of 86 years. Ken was the third of five children born to Harold and Marjorie Thurston on June 13, 1931, while they were residing in the Innisfail area. He met and married Edie Morris of the Westholm district and together they farmed the family farm for a year prior to moving to Innisfail where they have resided since them. Ken spent twenty-nine years as the Assistant Postmaster in Innisfail, taking early retirement in November 1985. Following his retirement he began to build specialized fishing rods, along with teaching other interested individuals to do the same. Yearly fishing trips to Campbell River, BC allowed Ken and his friends to put their fishing rods to the test. In addition, Ken and Edie travelled often to Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada. Always active in the community, Ken was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Innisfail Branch. He loved sports of all kinds and served as the Off-Ice Official at the old arena. Both he and Edie were active bowlers. Ken is survived by his wife Edith and by his sister Paulette, as well as numerous nephews, nieces and their families. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Innisfail Funeral Chapel on Thursday, August 24th at 2:00 PM. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Innisfail entrusted with arrangements. 403-227-0006. www.heartlandfuneralservices.com
