Obituary for Joseph "Joe" Henry Sargent

Joseph "Joe" Henry Sargent
SARGENT
Joseph Henry Sargent passed away August 20, 2017 in Olds, Alberta at the age of 82 years. Joe was born December 4, 1934 in Alix Alberta, the eldest son of Henry and “Tilly” Sargent. He worked on the family farm until he started working at the Dairy Pool in Alix, and remained interested in farming throughout his life. He also worked for the Dairy Pool in Coronation, Didsbury and managed the creamery in Olds, where he received the Butter Champion Award in 1970 for making the best butter in Canada. In 1973, Joe left the dairy business and worked in various jobs until he found his dream job: working as a carpenter. He built farm buildings, shingled roofs and renovated homes all around Olds and district. Joe was a Past Master of the Mountain View Lodge#16 and Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star #1 in Olds. He will be remembered for his dedication to the quality of his work, and of course, for his love of a good joke! We certainly can’t forget how much Joe loved working in his yard and garden. He wanted it to look nice, but he especially enjoyed the time spent visiting and chatting with passers-by. Joe is survived by his loving life of 54 years, Jean(nee McCracken); his daughters Diane(Kevin) Fjordbotten and their children Jesse and Krista; Arlene(Jim)Brownlee and their children Alex and Joanna; brother-in-law Don McCracken; sisters Marie Albers and Sheila Herold and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents Henry and Tilly; brothers Jack and Clare. In Lieu of flowers donation can be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #105, Olds.
