Obituary for David William Kolb

David William Kolb
KOLB
David “Dave” William Kolb passed away suddenly on Friday August 18, 2017 at the age of 73 years. Dave was born to Frank and Emma Kolb on February 26, 1944 in Star City, Saskatchewan and was one of ten children. Dave met Cherry Spiker in 1960 and they were married in 1963. To this union three boys were born Brent in 1963, Scott in 1968 and baby Kolb in 1973 who became an angel that same day. Dave, Cherry and Brent spent 2 years in Saskatoon with Dave working as a meat cutter. They moved to Vancouver in 1965 where they made their home for 11 years and it was here Scott was born. Dave worked full time as a meat manager until he became an efficiency controller within the Kelly Douglas Company. While here they bought and rented homes as well. In 1976 along with the McNary family, they moved to Olds where they purchased the Olds IGA together where they had many years of success. Dave and Bob were the founders of famous Midnight Madness which continues to this day. Along with his brothers Gordon and Albert, they purchased of the Drumheller IGA which his brothers operated. Dave built numerous homes in Olds and in 1981 built their dream home east of Olds. He had also acquired his real estate licence with Norm Jones Realty which is operates today as Widmer Realty. With the sale of the farm this year, they were in the process of building their last home on an acreage south of Olds. While on the farm they operated a feed lot of pure bred Charlaios cattle until such time they removed themselves from cattle and got into raising buffalo. He also farmed his own land, rented land and custom farmed for others. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, businessman, farmer and a friend to many. We will miss your hearty laugh, lectures of business and life and your kindnesses to all. We will love you forever. He will be forever remembered and sadly missed.
