Obituary for "Ann" Anna Maria Vanderzwan (VanDerAar)

"Ann" Anna Maria Vanderzwan (VanDerAar)
VANDERZWAN
Anna Maria Vanderzwan (nee VanDerAar), cherished and loved wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at the age of 82 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Cornelus (Niel), her children Dianne, Andy (Cindy), Brian (Carla) Rick (Kelly), Lynn (Rick), Allan (Angie), fourteen grandchildren and their spouses, and five great grandchildren. Ann is survived by her sister Tineke of Haarlem, Holland. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Nel, brother-in-law Frans, brother Arie and sister-in-law To - all of Haarlem, Holland. Ann and Niel were married on May 11, 1955 in Haarlem, Holland and with only two suitcases and dreams of a better life for themselves and future children, embarked on their journey to Canada one week later. In a one room apartment in Olds, Ann began her career as the consummate Homemaker and Niel as a Baker. After moves including Calgary and Edmonton, they settled in Sundre in 1963 with five children and the sixth soon to come. Ann's joy was always found in raising her children with an abundance of love and worked hard to support Niel in providing for them. She was an accomplished seamstress, an "up-cycler" before it became popular, an immaculate housekeeper and expert in tending to the needs of her family. When Ann found time for herself, she became an avid curler and Volunteer for the Sundre Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Ann's greatest accomplishment, she felt, were her family and she loved them dearly.

Mother, the ribbons of your love are woven around my heart. ~Author Unknown
