Victor John passed away on February 11, 2017 at the age of 88 years at the Olds Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Medicine Hat on May 2, 1928 to parents Helga and Samuel Kobberstad. Vic was raised on a farm at Richmound, Saskatchewan with six brothers and three sisters; Clifford, Clara, Alvin, Vernon, Roald, Evelyn, Lillian, Lloyd and Gordon. He left home at the age of sixteen to work in the oilfields of Alberta. Vic married Louise Dodd of Olds on August 6, 1955 and later farmed the Dodd/Kobberstad family farm east of Olds until retiring to Olds in 2010. Vic is survived by his loving wife Louise of 61 years and two daughters, Melody (Richard) Sommers and Brenda(Tony)Kwan; grandchildren Sydney Sommers, Mackenzie Sommers, Mikayla Kwan and Gillian Kwan; his siblings Clara Rubin, Roald (Theresa), Evelyn Morrison, Lillian Hunt and Lloyd(Pearl); sister-in-laws Min Kobberstad, Audrey Neal, Doreen(Al)Brunner and Delores Bluck; numerous nieces and nephews and a number of dear cousins in Norway. Vic was predeceased by parents Helga and Samuel, brothers Clifford, Alvin, Vernon and Gordon, sister-in-law Lois Erickson, and brothers-in-law Joe Rubin, Ken Morrison, Alan Hunt, Ed Erickson and Paul Bluck. The family would like to thank Dr. Blackshaw, Home Care Nurses, Restoritive Care and Acute Care at the Olds Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion during Vic’s time there. Funeral services will be held on Monday February 20, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with public visitation from 1-2 p.m. at the Pomeroy Inn & Suites in Centennial Suite A, Olds with Reverend Doug Maxwell officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (5038 49 St, Olds, AB T4H 1H3) or charity of choice.
